Escanaba, Michigan
Small-batch breads, house-fermented starters, and craft beverages born from decades of quiet dedication on the shores of Lake Superior.
Bell's Brewery began as a modest kitchen operation in Escanaba — not with fanfare, but with the stubborn conviction that bread and beverage deserve patience. What started as weekend batches for neighbors has grown into a cornerstone of Upper Michigan's food community.
Every morning, our ovens fire before dawn. Our sourdough starters, some dating back over a decade, are fed and tended by hand. We source our flour from regional mills and our dairy from local creameries, because flavor begins at the source.
This is not industrial production. This is craft — measured, observed, and respected. The result is bread with character, pastries with intention, and beverages that taste of place.
Our sourdough, multigrain, and country loaves are built on 24-hour cold ferments. Crusty, open-crumbed, alive with flavor.
Croissants, danishes, and seasonal tarts — all from scratch, all butter, all worth the wait.
House-brewed ales and lagers, from sessionable pale ales to rich, dark stouts — paired perfectly with our breads.
A curated collection of regional staples — olive oils, preserves, cheeses, and specialty items from Upper Michigan producers.
We let fermentation do what it does best. Our breads rest. Our doughs proof slowly. There is no rushing a good loaf.
Every ingredient has a story. We know our millers, our dairy farmers, and our hop growers by name.
We bake for the people who live here, work here, and return. Your satisfaction is our only metric.
